Introduction to Sea Kayaking

March 2nd, 2009

On Sunday Russ, Martin and Richard joined adventure elements on an introduction to sea kayaking. All the group were super keen and expressed a real interest to learn as much as possible. We paddled out of Moelfre on Anglesey and looked and a range basic boat handling skills and played around with some core stability exercises. The lads got to grips really quickly with sea kayaking so a bit of a trip up the coast to Dulas Beach was in order. Although it is only just March, mild conditions allowed the group to finish of with a bit of a wet session looking at rescues, Martin and Russ even managed a solo re-entry (geting yourself back in your sea kayak with no assistance). A great day on the water and we will be seeing the lads again in a months time for an Improvers session.

Bardsey Island

March 2nd, 2009

Last Saturday me and Dave had a great paddle out to Bardsey. Unseasonably mild weather and light winds made for a really nice trip. The race at Pen y Cil was working well on the way out and fast tidal streams on the approach to Bardsey had us both digging a bit deeper with our paddling. Bardsey is, in my opinion, one of the best sea kayaking day trips in North Wales offering challenging conditions which require careful tidal planning along with stunning scenary and a commiting crossing.

India Trip

January 19th, 2009

To escape the great British winter I am heading off to India for a month. Time to have a relax and explore the coastline and some sections of rivers. Have had a look for info on sea kayaking over there but can’t seem to find anything. Not sure if anyone has completed a trip on the coast there, it looks interesting? If anyone know of aanything let me know.

Was out with a group this weekend looking at sea kayak skills in the surf. A cold day and not the greatest conditions but good fun was had by all. For info on any courses or to book a days private sea kayaking course visit www.adventureelements.com .

Expedition Symposium

February 26th, 2008

This weekend I was working at the Plas Y Brenin expedition symposium. A great event with a range of talks, workshops and lectures for people interested in expedition paddling. All disciplines of paddling were represented, white water, sea and open boat.

Really good lectures by the likes of Deb Piniger, Loel Collins and Olly Sanders provided plenty of ideas and inspiration for all those at the event.

I ran afternoon workshops on expedition boat repairs which involved people having a go at repairing a range of different boats using a vareity of materials and solutions.

It was nice to see some familiar faces and have a chat over a few beers in the bar on the Saturday night.

Cheers to Pete for organising a really good weekend.
