UKCC Courses

The UKCC 3 star award is a personal performance award aimed at able and improving sea kayakers. This two day training course will cover all aspects of the 3 star syllabus including boat handling skills in winds up to Force 4, rescue skills and basic navigation. Throughout the course students will be given feedback and will leave with a clear idea of what they need to work on before going for a 3 star assessment.

This one day assessment will look at candidates personal skills in 3 star conditions. All aspects of the 3 star syllabus will be covered. Performance at this level indicates an able and improving sea paddler.

This two day course will involve 3 star training on day 1 and then a 3 star assessment on day 2. Aimed at paddlers that feel they have most of the 3 star skills but would benefit from a day brushing up on bits before doing an assessment. Please contact us to discuss the option to do either just the training day or just the assessment.

This one day course is a pre requisit for the 4 star sea leader award. Aimed at people journeying in moderate tidal waters this 1 day classroom based course will cover the use of charts and maps, understanding weather and forecasts, tidal planning, navigation skills aswell as how to plan sea kayak trips. All this will delivered with lots classroom practical sessions for students.

The 4 star award is suitable for leaders wishing to take groups into moderate tidal waters in winds up to force 4. This two day course will cover all aspects of the 4 star syllabus including leadership skills, rescues, personal skills, navigation and incident managment. This training course will comprise of two long days on the water finishing with a structured debrief. Students will leave with a clear action plan of how to work towards their 4 star assessment.

This two day course will assess candiates in all areas of the 4 star award. One of the days will involve leading a group of mock students on a journey in 4 star conditions. We aim to create a comfortable assessment environment where we can see students performing to the best of their ability. Whatever the outcome of the assessment candidates will leave with feedback and an action plan for their next steps.

This course is designed for those paddlers carrying out open water journeys including islands over 2 nautical miles offshore in areas of strong tidal movement of 3+ knots and/or including winds of up to force 5 and is suitable for those seeking their 5 star award sea. This is a classroom based course but with lots of practical exercises.

The 5 star award is an advanced leadership award aimed at paddlers wishing to lead groups in advanced tidal waters in challenging weather conditions. Anglesey is a fantastic 5 star environment where we can train you on advanced leadership and rescues, navigation including night nav aswell as personal skills. All students will leave with a detailed action plan to take them towards assessment.

Candidates who are successfull at this level are deemed to have the skills suitable to lead groups in advanced conditions. A two day assessment including night navigation and a day leading a group of mock students on an advanced journey. We aim to create a comfortable assessment environment where we can see students performing to the best of their ability. Whatever the outcome of the assessment candidates will leave with feedback and an action plan for their next steps.
